Intra-European
student mobility

With the Erasmus + program, students can go on exchange studies or internships in Europe.
Read more about your options.

Why go?

You can learn the languages.
Student mobility helps you to find new friends from all over the world.
The experience of an exchange student increases self-confidence and independence.
Living in another country broadens the world view and allows you to get to know other cultures.

Did you know?

During Erasmus, you will have the support by your home institution, the host institution, and other Erasmus students from around the world.

Erasmus+ is a program that helps students, regardless of age, to go on an exchange year. Every year, about five students over the age of 40 also attend the exchange year.

The experience of students participating in the Erasmus program is mediated by the Erasmus Student Network.

In the Erasmus program, you can participate in each level of higher education for a total of up to 12 months, which can include several mobilities of different lengths.

Who can go?

  • The student participating in mobility must be an enrolled student of an Estonian higher education institution, regardless of citizenship and residence permit.
  • You can go on mobility already in the first year.
  • You can go on a recent graduate internship abroad within one year of completing your studies.

Where can I go, and how much scholarship can I get?

You can study at your home institution’s Erasmus partner institution in Europe and around the world.

You can go abroad on an internship at a company or organization, which allows you to acquire the skills that the internship requires.

Supplementary grants and other scholarships

  • The higher education institution may provide additional support up to a maximum of 200 euros by the Republic of Estonia.
  • The recipient of Estonian needs-based study allowance can apply for an additional participant with fewer opportunities top-up 200 euros per month.
  • A student with with fewer opportunities related to physical, mental, or health needs can apply for additional support. Reasonable costs are reimbursed on the basis of actual costs.

For how long can I go?

Long-term physical mobility

2 – 12 months

Short-term physical mobility of doctoral students

5 – 30 days

Internship

2 – 12 months

Recent graduate internship

up to 12 months

Blended mobility

5 – 60 days

How well do I have to know the language?

An exchange student must be able to actively participate in the studies of a partner higher education institution. Many European higher education institutions also offer different lecture cycles in English, in which case proficiency in the local language is not a prerequisite for participation in studies.

The language level depends on the company chosen for the internship.

How can I participate?

Every Erasmus+ eligible Estonian higher education institution has an Erasmus program coordinator, and larger institutions also have contact persons in faculties or departments. The coordinator is best able to assist in the selection of a partner higher education institution as well as in terms of applications, selection procedures, deadlines, and practical issues.
